About Me:
Originally heralding from the United Kingdom, I have always been intrigued by the big questions: what, why and how. My first passions were science, especially astronomy and marine science, art and reading.
At thirteen I was reading Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and by the age of fifteen, had read many of the world's greatest works of literature, religion, and philosophy. By the time I had graduated high school with honors, I had traveled extensively, built a car and flown airplanes. I was the President of one astronomy club, founder of another and active in Civil Air Patrol. In addition, I have studied the martial arts and taught myself how to play the guitar. It was during this time I began to pursue my passion for writing.
Putting myself through college, I graduated, again with honors, holding dual degrees in psychology and biology. To pay for my education, I worked as a tobacco picker, a tailor's apprentice, a dishwasher, a bicycle shop mechanic, a microfiche technician, a meat-wrapper and a convenience store manager, among other jobs.
After college, I was a founding member of a mental health program working with people who had severe mental illness and worked for a period of time at Connecticut’s Fairfield Hills State Psychiatric Hospital. I left this agency I helped start after serving as the Executive Director and went on to head up programs providing services to the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch. In this role I was involved in writing grants, winning government contracts and growing the organization.
I then returned to school, graduating Delta Mu Delta with a masters degree in business. I have attended hundreds of educational seminars including having completed the FBI’s Leadership Training Program. Additionally, I am a certified investigator through the Connecticut State Police Academy and passed the State of Connecticut exam for Human Resources Specialist. I have been using computers since there were personal computers and studied, or taught myself, several programming languages. I have just completed a course in End User Design and have just begun a masters certification program in Instructional Design.
After completing my graduate degree, I began my own consulting business providing leadership development programs, organizational effectiveness assessments, and management services to various for-profit and nonprofit organizations. In this capacity, my skills were utilized to get several start-up businesses off the ground. I have served in a volunteer capacity on the advisory board for the development of a charter school, my town’s Conservation Committee and was a member of the board of directors for a local credit union. I was also very involved with the efforts of several animal rescue efforts, helping to find homes for hundreds of dogs.
In my professional career, I have been involved with a number of statewide committees and advisory boards, in which we worked to shape state policies and procedures. For over a decade, I have been on the Faculty at Post University, where I helped to develop their online graduate and undergraduate educational programs. Simultaneously, I ran a nonprofit agency providing services to people with intellectual and physical disabilities and went on from there to be a Business Partner for a Human Resource Consulting agency, specializing in organizational effectiveness initiatives.
Not having lost a love for the Arts, I have had a public showing of my photography collection and won awards for my poetry. Recently, I have been actively working with the two nonprofits, one of which is involved with environmental protection and the other providing art education to children. I have studied drumming with an internationally known percussionist, am a Yoga practitioner and am well versed in meditation, as well as modern mindfulness practices. I am a PADI certified scuba diver, have hiked the Grand Canyon and climbed Pikes Peak. My interest in history and anthropology which lead me to rediscover a pre-European contact Native American ruin; forgotten for more than a hundred years. I have visited many of the world’s greatest museums and climbed the Temple of Kukulkan at Chichen Itza, Mexico.
When not dreaming, thinking, doing, leading and teaching, I enjoy time at home, much of which I built himself, with my children and wife of nearly thirty years.
